Programme Highlight

In support of the “Southbound Travel for Guangdong Vehicles” scheme, the Automated Car Park B mainly serves as car parking facilities with 1,000 nos. parking spaces adopting automatic parking systems (APS) for passengers and single-plate drivers entering Hong Kong via Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Passenger Clearance Building (PCB) in private cars.

The vision of this development is designed to provide convenience for inbound travelers to visit Airport City facilities such as Asia World-Expo and other leisure and entertainment facilities of Skytopia, as well as other parts of Hong Kong, helping to promote Hong Kong’s tourism.  

One of the key performance criteria of the Automated Carpark B is its very small tolerance of differential settlements in the structural framing and floors. At the same time, the site underground is occupied by an existing Common Utilities Enclosure (CUE) bisecting the footprint and District Cooling System (DCS) twin pipeline, which must not be affected by new building loadings or construction activities. Given these constraints and the consolidation reclamation, the new building requires a fully piled foundation. Close-packed at-grade infrastructure also limits column spacing, resulting in long-span transfer structures on the 1st floor. This transfer is achieved through adoption of 5no. deep structural steel truss members spanning up to 48m over the CUE to RC columns either side. The transfer framing north and south of the CUE is composed of deep RC beams with long span. Above this level, the column layout, floor framing, and vertical circulation follow the requirements of the automated car parking system. 

Above the 1st and 2nd floor transfer levels, the column grid is regularized to suit automated car parking operations. Column spacing in the N–S direction is typically 7.5–10 m, driven by the storage rack layout for an efficient superstructure design. In the E–W direction, spacing is wider (10.5–14 m) to accommodate storage rack length, AGV driveways, and car lifts. Overall spacing is aligned with functional requirements as they take priority for the dedicated facility.

The project also features to adopt Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) parking technology. The ACPB building will have 4 floors, where Ground Floor will be used for parking, Mezzanine Floor will be used for retrieval. The remaining two upper floors (1/F and 2/F) will be used for vehicle storage.  The whole system will allow min 178 times of combined parking and retrieve operations per hours and achieve average waiting time for vehicle within 3mins.

  • The technical visit is free of charge with maximum of 30 participants. 
  • Participants are REQUIRED to bring along your safety shoes during the visit.  The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety helmets and reflective vests will be provided on site.
