Mr. Ricky Yau is the Head of Engineering at Hilti (Hong Kong) Limited, responsible for product code and approval development, construction-related testing and training services, and the delivery of engineering solutions for specifiers. With over 11 years at Hilti and nearly 15 years of experience in the Hong Kong construction market, his expertise spans civil, structural, and MEP sectors. He has contributed to major infrastructure projects including Kai Tak Sports Park, Tuen Mun–Chek Lap Kok Tunnel, Central Kowloon Route, and the HKIA Third Runway. Actively involved in driving construction innovation with key public authorities, he also specializes in digital project management, BIM-based construction, digital project delivery, and innovative inspection solutions integrated with Hilti systems.

Programme Highlight:  

This technical seminar will introduce an end-to-end quality control strategy specifically for substructure fixing systems. Given current industry practices and traditional contractual arrangements, substructure fixing systems often involve multiple stakeholders with shared design and installation responsibilities. The proposed end-to-end strategy systematically segments the entire process into key milestones, namely the design stage, construction stage, and final inspection and documentation stage, providing a structured framework to enhance quality assurance and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.

  • For design stage, the seminar will highlight how software utilization and integration have become standard practice in improving productivity, while also enabling safer and more optimized structural designs. Practical demonstrations will showcase the application of engineering software in baseplate connections, steel structures, and curtain wall elements, along with an overview of the relevant design methodologies and code standards embedded within these digital tools.
  • For the construction stage, workmanship is a critical factor in quality control. This seminar will provide comprehensive guidance covering installation method statements and preparation of installation accessories, alongside the introduction of an all-round training module designed to enhance installer competency and ensure consistent installation quality.
  • For the inspection and documentation stage, the seminar will provide updates on the latest PNAP APP169 testing requirements, with Hilti’s capabilities as a HOKLAS-accredited laboratory. It will also demonstrate how an end-to-end digital platform can be used to systematically document key quality milestones as part of an overarching quality management strategy.
